The Patrol Division is the largest program, providing the most visible and direct services to the community 24 hours a day. The word "patrol" is used here in its broadest sense. It is considered to be the primary law enforcement function and embraces much more than the act of patrolling. It is defined as a generalized function where officers engage in a wide variety of activities which include:

• Responding to Emergencies
• Answering Calls for Service
• Enforcing Traffic Laws
• Investigating Accidents
• Conducting Initial Criminal Investigations

Equipment

The Department maintains a fleet of marked Dodge Charger Police Vehicles.  Cruisers are equipped with a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) which is a computer linked to the Department's network and able to research License, Registration and Warrant information. 

The Department participates in several specialized units including

• SWAT
• Bicycle Patrol 

The Police Department handles many urgent situations - including:

• Emergencies (call 911)
• Bomb Threats and Suspicious Packages
• Car Accidents
• Criminal Complaints
  • (prowlers, shoplifters, motor vehicle violations, stalkers,etc.)
• Domestic Disputes and Violence
• Hazardous Road Reports
  • (fallen trees, wires, etc.)
• Missing Person Reports
• Neighbor Disputes
